Question of the day

When preparing a patient for Holter monitoring, what action should an MA take to ensure accurate electrode placement?

When preparing a patient for Holter monitoring, it is important for an MA to ensure the skin is clean and dry prior to electrode placement. This is because lotion (Option A) can create a barrier between the electrode and the skin, potentially causing inaccurate readings. Moistening the skin with water (Option B) may also interfere with the electrode's adhesion to the skin. Allowing the skin to air dry (Option C) may take too long and leave the skin slightly damp, affecting the electrode's ability to stay in place. Vigorously drying the skin prior to placement (Option D) ensures that the skin is completely dry and provides the best surface for the electrode to adhere to, increasing the accuracy of the monitoring.

One domain covers more than half the entire NHA CCMA exam. That single fact changes how you should study far more than any generic tip about flashcards or sleep schedules.

Issued by National Healthcareer Association
Questions 180 total, 150 scored, 30 unscored pretest
Time 3 hours
Passing score 390 of 500
Eligibility Accredited training, or qualifying work experience

The official test plan splits scoring across seven domains, and Clinical Patient Care takes 84 of the 150 scored items on its own, 56%. Inside that domain, General Patient Care is the largest single subdomain at 28 items (exam room prep, medication and injectable administration, wound care), followed by Infection Control and Safety (15), Patient Intake and Vitals (14), Phlebotomy (12), Point of Care Testing (9), and EKG/Cardiovascular Testing (6). The other six domains, Foundational Knowledge, Anatomy and Physiology, Patient Care Coordination, Administrative Assisting, Communication, and Medical Law and Ethics, split the remaining 66 items between them.

Most study plans give all seven domains roughly equal attention, which sounds thorough and is actually a mismatch with how NHA built the test. Over half your score lives in one domain. General Patient Care alone outweighs the entire Medical Law and Ethics domain by a factor of four.

Two side notes worth knowing: 30 of your 180 questions are unscored pretest items you can't identify during the test, so every question needs to be treated as if it counts. And CCMA is specifically NHA's credential, other organizations issue similarly-named medical assistant certifications with their own separate exams, so confirm you're studying for the right one if your employer specified NHA by name.

Retake policy and current fees are set by NHA directly, confirm both at nhanow.com before you register.

We built our question bank around the real domain weighting, not an even split, so the bulk of your practice mirrors the bulk of your score: clinical patient care first, everything else after.
